Cucumbers

Plant Date: May 13th

Planting: Plant the seeds outside no earlier than two weeks after the last average frost date. The ground needs to be at least 65°F for the seeds to germinate and the plants are very susceptible to frost damage. Mix in compost or aged manure before planting and till the soil to 6-8" deep. Plant the seeds 1" deep and 12" apart. If you have a vining variety you should use a trellis to keep the fruit from lying on the ground.

Care: Water frequently once the seedlings emerge. When the fruit starts to form they'll need a gallon a week. You can use a fertilizer with low nitrogen and high potassium and phosphorus.

Harvest: Harvest when the fruits reach desired size (usually between 2-8"). Don't let the cucumbers get yellow on the vine. You can store them in the refrigerator for 7-10 days.
